Bio
Marieke Knies graduated in 2005 from the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine in Utrecht. After working for some time in a first-opinion practice, she joined the AniCura Veterinary Referral Centre Dordrecht in 2014 and later also the AniCura Specialist Referral Centre Haaglanden in Rijswijk. In these practices, Marieke almost exclusively sees cats—both referral cases as well as geriatric cats and those with chronic diseases. In 2016, Marieke obtained membership of the Australian and New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists (feline medicine).
At the end of 2016, she also completed the master’s program of the European School of Advanced Veterinary Studies (ESAVS) in internal medicine. In 2021, she began a Residency in Internal Medicine at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine in Utrecht, which she completed at the end of 2024. In March 2025, she successfully passed her European Specialist examination. She lives in Dordrecht with her cat, Pip and her partner Mathew. She wishes she could have more cats, but Pip won’t let her.
