Topical Tramadol for Ocular Pain
This webinar is intended for veterinary professionals in Australia only. If you are visiting from outside Australia, this webinar registration is not currently available in your region. Please visit our Bova Scholars page for other upcoming webinars and CPD resources.Overview
Ocular pain is a common yet challenging problem in ophthalmology, often inadequately controlled with current therapies such as lubricants, NSAIDs, corticosteroids, and systemic analgesics. The session will focus on the emerging role of topical tramadol, a first-in-class ocular analgesic targeting pain.
Its multimodal mechanisms of action, including opioid receptor activity, monoaminergic modulation, and TRPV1 receptor interaction, will be explored in relation to corneal nociception and pain control. Available evidence on the efficacy and safety of topical tramadol in postoperative and ocular surface pain will be reviewed, followed by clinical case discussions highlighting practical applications and patient outcomes. The webinar will conclude with a discussion on the future potential of topical tramadol in ocular pain management and areas for further research.
