Bio
Anant Sharma (FRCOphth) is a consultant ophthalmologist specialising in corneal and anterior segment surgery, and one of the foremost dry eye disease specialists in Britain. His research has set the standard of care for the treatment of dry eye, corneal ulcers and pterygium surgery in several countries.
Anant practiced at Moorfields Eye Hospital for 16 years before his current role leading high-volume cataract and dry eye treatment at Newmedica Eye unit. Prizes for his work include the ‘Best of the Best’ award for fingerprick of autologous blood for dry eyes at the ESCRS Congress in 2016, alongside multiple national prizes. Previous roles include Chief Investigator on multiple studies (including an NIHR-funded grant), Research Ethics Committee member, and Director of Research & Development atBedford Hospital.
His interests include improving clinical care, focusing on topical analgesia for ocular pain, dry eye treatments, medical devices for cataract surgery and dry eyes. He graduated from Cambridge University medical school with the surgical prize. Anant also has two British shorthair cats, Daisy and Maisy, who are three years old.
