Meet Ebby
Age: 9 years old
Breed: Scottish Fold
Diagnosis: Effusive (wet) form
I’ve had Ebby for just about three years now, after adopting her at age 8. Her FIP journey began subtly, with symptoms that were easy to dismiss — until they weren’t.
It started this past winter when I noticed small changes: a slightly odd gait, not getting up for food right away, and no longer sleeping in her favourite spot. Others told me it was probably just age, that I was overthinking it. But my gut told me something wasn’t right, so I brought her in to the vet — and we were told it might be lymphoma.
After many teary days and sleepless nights, we made it to her oncology appointment. That’s when we heard about FIP for the first time.
What followed was a few more weeks of waiting, crying, and fearing the worst. Then came the diagnosis: wet FIP. FIP Medication was ordered immediately.
Incredibly, after just three days on the treatment, Ebby’s fluid-filled belly returned to normal. Within a week, her energy came back, and she was eating like her old self again.
It’s been an incredibly emotional journey — as I’m sure it is for every FIP family. We went from believing she had untreatable lymphoma, to having hope again.
Now, we’ve officially completed the observation period, and Ebby has reached a wonderful milestone: 10 years old. She spends her days soaking up the sun and getting her daily zoomies. She’s back to being her happy, quirky self.
I’m forever grateful to our oncologist, Darren, who recognised the possibility of FIP and made sure we didn’t give up without answers.
