Responsible use of antibiotics in equine practice (2020)

Overview

Antibiotic resistance has, until recently, been viewed more as a political issue than a clinical concern for equine practitioners. However, it is now emerging as a real clinical challenge, with wound infections caused by MRSA and MRSP becoming increasingly common.

In this webinar, Professor Mark Bowen—RCVS Specialist in Equine Internal Medicine and EBVS® Specialist in Veterinary Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation—will guide you through developing an antibiotic use policy in your practice using BEVA’s PROTECT ME framework. He will also discuss the management of common clinical conditions through responsible antibiotic use.

Professor Bowen is a past president of BEVA, the creator of the PROTECT ME toolkit, and a recipient of the Antibiotic Guardian Award—recognising outstanding work in antimicrobial stewardship across veterinary and human healthcare. He is currently Professor of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Nottingham and also works at Oakham Veterinary Hospital.
