Dr Catherine Chan

BVSc (Hons I) FANZCVS (Veterinary Oncology) Diplomate ACVIM (Oncology) Registered Specialist in Veterinary Oncology Q4941 Treasurer of the Veterinary Oncology Chapter (ANZCVS)
The Pet Oncologist

I graduated in 2009 from The University of Queensland with a Bachelor of Veterinary Science and began my veterinary career by completing a small animal rotating internship at Veterinary Specialist Services in Brisbane. I then worked in small animal emergency and general practice before moving to Sydney in 2012 to undertake a three-year residency in veterinary oncology at the Animal Referral Hospital in Homebush.

Since completing my residency, I have worked at several specialist referral hospitals in Brisbane and spent time in the USA at the University of Missouri and Colorado State University. I am a board-certified specialist in veterinary oncology with both the Australian and New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists (ANZCVS) and the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (ACVIM).

I am passionate about research in veterinary oncology and have contributed to the field with over ten peer-reviewed publications. I also authored a chapter in the most recent edition of Ettinger’s Textbook of Veterinary Internal Medicine. My work has been recognised with several research awards, which continue to motivate my commitment to advancing the understanding and treatment of cancer in pets.

Cancer can be a difficult and emotional journey for pets and their families. My top priority is to provide evidence-based, compassionate recommendations tailored to each patient. I am dedicated to improving remission and survival outcomes while maintaining the highest possible quality of life.

Outside of work, I stay busy with my three energetic young children and two cats. Balancing a fulfilling veterinary career with family life brings me joy and perspective, and continues to inspire my work.
