Bova UK Honoured as Runner Up for BVNA Exhibitors Sustainability Award 2024

October 2024 – Bova UK is proud to announce its achievement as the Runner Up for the prestigious BVNA Exhibitors Sustainability Award 2024, recognizing its ongoing commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility.

At this year’s BVNA Congress, Bova UK stood out for its innovative approach to promoting good environmental practices. The company’s exhibition stand, reused consistently since 2020, highlighted sustainable initiatives including the reduction of paper waste, environmentally friendly merchandise, and the promotion of digital solutions. This commitment aligns with Bova’s broader sustainability strategy and dedication to reducing its carbon footprint.

Exhibition Highlights:

  • Minimised Paper Usage: Only essential materials, such as guides on feline infectious peritonitis (FIP), were provided, printed on recycled, FSC approved paper. Other literature was replaced with digital resources, reducing paper waste.
  • Eco-Friendly Merchandise: Bova’s stand featured wheatgrass pens, reusable travel mugs, and eco-friendly bags made from recycled plastic bottles, reflecting the company’s dedication to promoting sustainable alternatives. Other non-sustainable promotional items are gradually being phased out.
  • Charitable Support: Rather than offering traditional event prizes, Bova UK chose to donate £1 per scan at their stand to Nature’s SAFE, a charity dedicated to cryopreserving the DNA of endangered species to safeguard biodiversity. This initiative supports the UN Sustainable Development Goal 15: Life on Land.

Sustainability in Day-to-Day Operations: Bova UK has implemented various eco-friendly practices in its business operations. The introduction of WoolCool packaging, made from Herdwick sheep wool and compostable materials, has reduced the company’s polystyrene use by 65% and packaging costs by 45%. This packaging solution is a significant step forward in reducing plastic waste and improving sustainability in logistics.

Other efforts include switching from bubble wrap to Hex-wrap from a UK-based supplier, and the use of recyclable materials in shipping. The company has also transitioned its fleet from diesel to hybrid vehicles and converted its energy sources to renewable options, contributing to its achievement of net-zero carbon emissions for Scope 1 and 2 in 2023.

Commitment to the Future: Bova UK’s sustainability efforts extend beyond its current operations. The company is actively working with Investors in the Environment (IIE) to achieve Bronze level accreditation in the UK and Australia. Additionally, they are working to analyse and reduce their supply chain’s environmental impact, aiming for further reductions by 2026.

Bova UK is also contributing to local environmental initiatives, having raised over £5,000 for Nature’s SAFE through donations and charity drives, further underscoring its commitment to making a positive environmental impact.

About Bova UK: As the only “Specials” manufacturing company with a dedicated sustainability strategy, Bova UK continues to lead the way in promoting environmentally responsible practices. Through their innovative solutions, such as WoolCool packaging and reduced carbon emissions, Bova is setting new standards for environmental stewardship within the pharmaceutical industry.
