PROTECT ME 2023: how antimicrobial use guidance can help your practice! (2023)

Overview

BSAVA and the Small Animal Medicine Society are launching the 3rd iteration of the PROTECT ME antibiotic use guidance tool. The poster offers recommendations for rational antibiotic use for a range of common presentations. Most importantly, it suggests when antibiotics can (and should) not be used. As prescribers, vets have an important impact in the battle against antimicrobial resistance. Consequently, it is vital that we adopt a prudent and appropriate approach to antibiotic use to minimise the development of resistant bacteria. The PROTECT ME poster incorporates the latest available evidence and the expertise of more than 50 stakeholders. Hear about the key changes and learn how you can integrate this guidance into your practice antibiotic policies. Together, we can contribute to the One Heal efforts to combat AMR.
