Meet Ozzy
Age: 1 year 8 months
Breed: Domestic Shorthair
Diagnosis: Effusive (wet) form
Shortly after Christmas, we noticed that Ozzy’s stomach had swollen and felt very fluid filled. He was lethargic, refusing to eat, frequently going to the litter box but not doing anything and hiding all the time. We took him to our usual vet who told us that he simply was overweight, that we were overfeeding him and that he needed to go on a diet. We were not satisfied with this, we had a gut instinct that something was wrong and we decided to take him to a specialist animal hospital.
There they listened to our concerns and did a temperature, which was incredibly high, and an ultrasound where they found a mass of fluid in his abdomen. After running some tests, they concluded that Ozzy was most likely suffering with Wet FIP. The treatment was expensive and extensive, but he is our little boy and no cost was too great.
He stayed at the animal hospital for 4 nights, receiving a mix of cool fluids to help with the temperature and the fact he was not eating or drinking, as well as IV antiviral medications. After this he was discharged home, with oral medications for a duration of 84 days.
It was a difficult process, but we made it through and as of April 2026, Ozzy has officially finished treatment!
