Meet Mo
Age: 1 year
Breed: Domestic Shorthair
Diagnosis: Non-effusive (dry) form
We always assumed Mo was the “runt” of the litter being a small rescue kitten. At around 1 year old we noticed she was eating less, and she wasn’t food motivated at all. We assumed she was being fussy and tried different brands and types of wet and dry food to get her interested in eating again.
We noticed she was just happy snuggling with us and wasn’t as interested in play, we assumed she was growing out of her kitten phase. We could feel when patting her she was a petite little girl and we could start to feel her bones more.
One morning we woke up to a vomit, then the next 6 days were the same. We booked her in to see the vet after the third day of overnight vomits. She weighed 2.3kg and the vet ran some bloods.
The next week we found out she had FIP, and were given the only real treatment of antivirals. Thankfully our pet insurance covered a lot of the expenses so we were able to start her on treatment.
After 2 days of medication she stopped vomiting. After a week her appetite increased and she slowly started putting weight on. Thankfully she had ZERO side effects from the medication and we got into a good daily routine of giving her her tablets.
Now she’s a healthy 3.7kg and is a gorgeous ball of energy! Her bloods have come back clear and the vet has said she is now in remission. We couldn’t be happier that our fur baby is essentially “cured” 🙂
