Antibiotic Use in Veterinary Practice: PROTECT ME 2023 Guidance (2023)
The BSAVA and Small Animal Medicine Society (SAMSoc) have launched the third edition of the PROTECT ME antibiotic use guidance tool, designed to promote responsible antibiotic prescribing in small animal practice.
Why Rational Antibiotic Use Matters
Antibiotic resistance is one of the most pressing issues in both human and veterinary medicine. As prescribers, vets must adopt rational, evidence-based antibiotic use strategies to protect both animal and public health. The PROTECT ME tool highlights scenarios where antibiotics are unnecessary, helping to reduce inappropriate use and support antimicrobial stewardship.
