Management of spring transition and seasonal anoestrus in mares (2021)
Overview
This presentation will review the reproductive cycle of the mare, with a specific focus on the initiation of seasonal cyclic activity.
It will explore strategies and artificial lighting programmes used to advance the onset of cyclicity, along with a detailed discussion of current medical therapies available to hasten this process.
The session will also cover the phenomenon of seasonal anoestrus, commonly referred to as ‘lactational anoestrus’, and examine medical interventions to support mares in transitioning to a cyclic state.
