Learn how veterinary teams can maximise the welfare of companion animals who need to wear Elizabethan (2020)

Overview

Bova Aus is excited to introduce Bova Scholars – an online webinar resource designed specifically for veterinarians and veterinary nurses. Over the coming months, Bova Aus will collaborate with key opinion leaders to deliver high-quality continuing professional development (CPD) across a variety of veterinary topics.

Join us for an insightful webinar presented by study author Dr Anne Fawcett (BA(Hons), BScVet(Hons), BVSc(Hons), MVetStud, GradCertEdStud(HigherEd), MANZCVS (Animal Welfare), Dip ECAWBM (AWSEL)).

Dr Fawcett will discuss how veterinary teams can maximise the welfare of companion animals required to wear Elizabethan collars—commonly used to prevent self-trauma and reduce the risk of infection and wound breakdown.

But what happens after discharge? This webinar explores the results of a study that surveyed pet owners whose animals wore Elizabethan collars in the past 12 months. The findings offer valuable insights into the at-home experience of these pets and their owners—one of whom memorably referred to the device as “the cone of shame.”

Study Authors: Shenoda, Y.; Ward, M.; McKeegan, D.; and Fawcett, A.
