Keratoconjunctivits sicca in the dog: diagnosis, causes and treatment (2019)

Overview

During this webinar, James will first describe the components of the canine lacrimal system and preocular tear film. Then, using several case examples, James will cover the main clinical signs associated with acute and chronic tear film deficiencies. The most common causes of canine keratoconjunctivitis sicca will then be discussed. Finally, James will examine the various medical treatment options for the dog with dry eye.

James Oliver

James is a European and RCVS Specialist in Veterinary Ophthalmology and an Honorary Associate Professor at the University of Nottingham.

He graduated from the University of Bristol with distinction in 2002 and spent five years in general practice, where he developed a strong passion for veterinary ophthalmology. He achieved European Specialist status in 2011 and has since worked as a specialist in several leading referral hospitals across the UK.

James has extensive research experience, is widely published in scientific literature, and completed a PhD focused on the genetics of canine glaucoma. His primary research interest lies in the genetics of inherited eye diseases, aiming to develop DNA tests that can help eliminate painful and blinding ocular conditions in dogs and cats.

He is also the author of a book on feline ophthalmology and has contributed to several textbooks on various aspects of veterinary ophthalmology.

James is actively involved in teaching and mentoring veterinarians pursuing advanced understanding and postgraduate qualifications in this field. He currently serves as Chair of the European College of Veterinary Ophthalmologists’ Education and Residency Committee.
