Treatment of canine soft tissue sarcomas (2023)
Overview
Sarcomas are one of the more common tumours diagnosed in our canine patients but often difficult to treat if they cannot be surgically excised.
We will discuss treatment options for this tumour type with a particular focus on soft tissue sarcomas and options available for when complete resection just is not possible.

Dr Penny Thomas graduated from the University of Sydney in 2011 and began her career in mixed practice in the NSW Hunter Valley. She later completed her internship and residency in veterinary oncology at the Small Animal Specialist Hospital (SASH) in Sydney.
During her specialist training, Penny spent time at renowned institutions including Colorado State University, the Animal Health Trust (UK), the University of Wisconsin–Madison, and the Chris O’Brien Lifehouse in Sydney.
She earned her Membership in Small Animal Medicine with the Australian and New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists in 2015, and in 2019 became a Fellow of the College. She is a Registered Specialist in Veterinary Oncology.
In addition to her clinical work, Penny has completed postgraduate studies in Psychology and has mentored many recent veterinary graduates. She is deeply committed to education and believes that the patient’s quality of life is the most important aspect of cancer treatment.
