In our quest to grow as a greener organization, we’ve set our sights on reducing the environmental impact of our operations, particularly in the area of temperature-controlled shipping. Traditionally, polystyrene has been the go-to material for cool chain boxes due to its effectiveness in maintaining stable temperatures over extended periods. However, its significant environmental drawback is its non-recyclable nature.
Enter WoolCool®—a revolutionary packaging solution that leverages natural wool to keep temperatures stable for up to 72 hours. WoolCool® not only matches the thermal efficiency of polystyrene but also comes with a recyclable post-bag option, offering an eco-friendly alternative.
How to return your Woolcool®
To further extend the life cycle of WoolCool® packaging and reduce waste, we’re proud to introduce the WoolCool® returns scheme.
This initiative allows our clients to return their used WoolCool® liners for recycling and reuse. Here’s how it works:
- Pack It: Collect your used WoolCool® liners.
- Return It: Follow the instructions provided with your order to send the liners back to us in the provided return packaging.
- Reimagine It: WoolCool® liners are processed and reused, contributing to a circular economy and reducing waste.
By participating in the returns scheme, you’re directly contributing to a more sustainable future . Together, we can extend the life of these innovative materials and significantly reduce our environmental footprint.

The adoption of WoolCool® packaging has already made a tangible impact at Bova UK, with a 65% reduction in our reliance on polystyrene. Ongoing studies are helping us further optimise WoolCool’s® use, with the ultimate goal of eliminating polystyrene entirely.
