Meet Coney
Age: 6 months
Breed: British shorthair
Diagnosis: Effusive (wet) form
I adopted Coney as a stray after he was dumped by his owners because he had rectal prolapse. He lived in the hospital for a few weeks and after multiple prolapses ended up having colopexy surgery to fix the issue. After finally coming home I noticed that Coney was very quiet and lethargic. He was taken in for his 2nd vaccination and we were concerned that he had not gained any weight. We ended up having bloods run that suggested he may have FIP.
He was started on medication immediately as a precaution and after further tests were sent off he was officially diagnosed. He started off on GS tablets which worked for him for a while, but we ended up having to switch him onto GS liquid when his progress started to back track and he still wasn’t gaining any weight. He absorbed the liquid much better and finally started gaining weight. He developed IMHA and was started on a course of steroids to try and increase his red blood cell count.
We managed to get this back within normal range after a couple of months and Coney continued to make progress throughout the rest of his treatment. He officially finished his GS course in January 2025 and has thankfully not relapsed since and remains in remission. He is now a very cheeky boy and known for stealing random household objects and hiding them.
