Meet Buffy
Age: 8 months
Breed: Domestic longhair
Diagnosis: Non-effusive (dry) form
I’m a veterinary nurse and adopted a kitten from a local rescue. She started having diarrhoea with blood in it. We thought it could have been stress from starting a new life in a new home with dogs. We sent her faeces off for testing and came back positive for feline coronavirus and had a slight infection. We treated her initially with antibiotics but they didn’t work for her diarrhoea and she wasn’t eating much either. We then sent her for an ultrasound and saw her lower intestine and colon with quite thickened and her lymph nodes were inflamed, we took sample from them but they came back inconclusive. She had bloods taken from her as well and we saw her Red blood cells and haemoglobins were very low. With her ultrasound results and blood results we thought it could be the dry form of FIP and we could trail a week of the tablets. On the third day I saw a difference in Buffy and she was acting like an energetic kitten. We continued the tablet for the 3 months and she has be the healthiest cat ever since. She is now 3 years old and had no relapses. We do yearly bloods and check ups to make sure she is still safe.
