Meet Soju
Age: 3 months
Breed: British Shorthair
Diagnosis: Effusive (Wet) FIP
Soju was brought to the vet initially for constipation and a distended abdomen. The initial vet started him on laxatives, but after insisting on imaging (x-ray), they found that his abdomen was full of fluid. At this point, he was referred to Perth Cat Hospital. He was seen within days, had blood tests done, and was subsequently diagnosed with FIP.He was started on daily injections for over three months, during which he had multiple emergency vet stays and received treatment for anemia. We saw an improvement in his energy within a week of starting, and his abdominal distension slowly improved over weeks. He seemed to have recovered, but after one week of stopping treatment, he relapsed. He became really unwell during his relapse and required a feeding tube. He was started again on injections and transitioned to tablets for over three months.
We found he responded better to the tablets, and administering them was far less stressful than daily injections. Soju has been cured since completing his second round of treatment and has been living his best life since. He is our miracle baby and will be turning four years old soon! We are so grateful to Perth Cat Hospital and Bova for helping us save his life. Soju was brought to the vet initially for constipation and distended abdomen.
