Bova UK, the first veterinary sterile specials facility of its kind in the UK, has launched a range for the small animal market.

The expansion follows the Australian company’s inaugural launch into the UK equine market in March 2017, which subsequently enhanced treatment options for vets.

Formulations

Bova has six formulations in its small animal range, with a further 23 scheduled to be introduced later this year.

The Veterinary Medicines Regulations specify a special can only be supplied in accordance with a written or oral prescription from a vet, and must be prescribed in line with the cascade.

Accurate dosing

Ian Battersby, RCVS and European specialist in small animal medicine at Davies Veterinary Specialists, said: “The option to prescribe a special via the cascade is important in certain circumstances – not only to help resolve compliance issues, but also to ensure accurate dosing and assist in optimal management.”

To access an extemporaneous preparation, the vet should contact a holder of a specials manufacturing authorisation.

Such holders are licensed by the VMD and have proven they are capable of preparing the specials in accordance with good manufacturing practice.

Stand competition

Delegates can meet the Bova team at BSAVA Congress on 5 to 8 April at stand 817, where they will have a chance to win afternoon champagne tea at The Ritz London.

Due to advertising restrictions, vets will only be able to view Bova’s formulation list once they have been verified by its team.
